Type the words as they come. The clock starts at your first key, and a wrong letter never carries into the next word.
How to play
Pick 1 minute, 30 seconds, 15 seconds or Daily text, then press Play.
- Type in the box (on a phone, tap it first).
- Press Space after each word. A word left wrong is struck through.
- Backspace fixes a letter, even in an earlier word.
- When time is up, you see your speed and accuracy next to your best for that length. The daily text shows the day’s result instead.
Punctuation, before your first key, turns the text into sentences where capitals and marks count. Those rounds keep their own best.
Pasting does nothing. Your results and settings are kept on this device, never what you type.

Tips and strategy
Fix a slip at once, or leave it
A wrong letter left in costs 1 word a minute in a 1-minute round, 2 in 30 seconds and 4 in 15 seconds. If you keep an even pace, fixing it at once costs less than half that. Notice it two keys later and going back costs more than leaving it.
Practice the keys on your list
The result names up to 3 keys you missed most. A miss counts under the key the text wanted, so a letter typed where a space belonged shows up as space.
About typing tests
Speed tests have counted a word as five keystrokes since the typing contests of the early 1900s. In 1923 Albert Tangora typed for a whole hour at 147 words a minute.
Frequently asked questions
- How are words per minute worked out?
- Every 5 characters left in the box count as a word, spaces included. Divide by the minutes of the round, then take off the wrong letters left in per minute. So 234 characters in a minute is 46.8 words; 2 wrong letters left in make it 44.8, shown as 45.
- Do mistakes I fix with Backspace count?
- Not in your speed, apart from the time the fix takes. They do in your accuracy: your right keys out of every character you typed, rounded down, so 100% means not one wrong key.
- Why is my score higher than the number of words I typed?
- The words here average 4.5 letters, or 5.5 characters with the space. Type 50 of them right in a minute and the result is about 55.
- Do capitals count?
- Only with Punctuation on. Otherwise the text is all lower case and you never need Shift. A capital your phone adds costs nothing.
- Can I take the typing test on my phone?
- Yes, on your phone's own keyboard. The words and the box sit at the top, and fewer lines show while the keyboard is open, to keep them above it.
- Is the daily text the same for everyone?
- Yes, until midnight UTC. It is always 1 minute with no punctuation, and only your first round to the end is the day's result. New game brings the same text back for practice, which is why it never sets your 1-minute best.
